About us

The Cyber and Fraud Hub is Scotland's only charity that works closely with the banking industry, policing, and technology partners to support individuals who have been affected by online scams or fraud. Through our free telephone helpline, we provide proactive and preventative support and advice to individuals and our online resources make individuals aware of current scam and fraud trends.  We support vulnerable groups through helpful resources and hosting informative events to enhance their protection.  We collaborate with our partners to help amplify the messaging around cyber security and enhance cyber resilience across Scotland. 

What difference will you make? 

We are seeking new Trustees to join our Board, bringing constructive challenge and alternative perspectives. The ideal candidates will have expertise in: banking/finance, professional fundraising, marketing or general business leadership. We welcome candidates from various sectors and industries to help support and deliver our mission: to support those effected by scams and fraud by empowering them through education and guidance. Previous Trustee or Non-Executive experience is not necessary. These are non-remunerated positions. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Maintain the vision, mission and values of the organisation. 

  • Contribute to direction, strategy and planning. 

  • Ensure the organisation has the structure and resources for its work. 

  • Ensure the organisation has policies and procedures to govern organisational activity, including guidance for volunteers and staff. 

  • Ensure the organisation has systems for reporting and monitoring. 

  • Manage risk and ensure compliance and accountability with the governing document, external regulators and the law. 

  • Make certain that the financial affairs of the organisation are conducted properly and are accurately reported. 

  • Attendance at quarterly governance meetings, either in person or online.

Trustee role

Responsible for the governance and management of the Cyber and Fraud Hub, ensuring compliance with legal obligations and acting in the charity's best interests.

Responsibilities 

  • Legal Compliance: Trustees must ensure that the charity operates in accordance with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005. This includes understanding and fulfilling their legal duties, which are designed to protect the charity and its beneficiaries.

  • Acting in the Charity's Best Interests: Trustees have a duty to act in the best interests of the charity, prioritising its goals over personal interests. This includes managing conflicts of interest effectively. 

  • Financial Oversight: Trustees are responsible for the charity's finances, ensuring that funds are used appropriately and that financial records are maintained. They must also prepare and submit annual accounts and reports to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).  

  • Governance and Strategy: Trustees must provide strategic direction and ensure that the charity is well-managed. This includes understanding the charity's governing document and ensuring that all activities align with its charitable purposes.  

  • Collective Responsibility: All trustees share responsibility for the charity's actions and decisions. They must work collaboratively to ensure effective governance and management.  

  • Good Practice: Trustees should adopt good governance practices, such as regular meetings, clear record-keeping, and ongoing training to stay informed about their roles and responsibilities.  

  • Public Accountability: Trustees must ensure transparency and accountability to the public, which includes providing information about the charity's activities and financial status.
